Hi guys,

I came across an MMORTS launched in late 2011, called Dawn of Fantasy and got immediately hooked into it. To me it plays like the online version of Age of Empire. Graphics are decent but I am liking the building designs.

Features:
- You develop a town that exists in a persistent world -- Constructions and training occur in real time and town will continue to operate when you're offline (resources being harvested, units being trained, building construction progresses, etc.)
- You can attack other players' towns when they are online (PVP), NPC towns, and do quests (each race has different series of quests)
- You can trade resources with NPC towns
- A unit consists of multiple soldiers, except for special units like Ogre (Orc unique siege unit) or Treant (Elven unique siege unit)
- Max unit population is 90, including gatherer and worker units. Each unit typically consists of 16 to 24 soldiers and you can bring up to 60 units into battles making them large scale!

- Three races with unique units, buildings, resource gathering techniques: Men, Elves, and Orcs (yes, typical, but they do play differently)
- Three different starting regions (in which the town will be located) with different pros (i.e. bonus resource production rate) and cons (i.e. increased unit cost) for each race.
- Four to five traits, of which two are selectable
- So with the race-region-traits combo, you can have a diversity of setup (i.e. offensive/defensive/balanced, focus on economy/warfare/magic, etc.)

In general, Humans are jack of all trades, I have a mountain Elven town and desert oOrcish town at the moment. The mountain Elves are magic and melee specialists, while the desert Orcs are mounted warfare and siege specialists

There is a catch, but all these have not bothered me so far:
- It is still in development and buggy! But patches are released in bi-weekly basis
- Server population is still low but below promotion has seem to draw new players!
- It cost one-time payment of $25, but you can get it for free if you become a IGN Prime subscriber

Here's the trick:
- Go to http://login.ign.com/prime/landing
- Register an account, choose your IGN Prime Plan, and put in your credit card details when asked
- Verify your email address
- Login into IGN Prime, go to account setup, find the option to cancel subscription (you will be refunded if the money has been withdrawn from your account)
- Get the free key for Dawn of Fantasy
- Download Dawn of Fantasy client and use the free key to register your copy

Official website: http://dof.reverieworld.com/

I know it's a lot of hassle, but if you did end up registering your free copy, I'd appreciate if you use my username (Elsior) as referee.

For you having problems running it: Its resolution depends on your desktop resolution, so just lower it before starting the game to improve performance.

The concept reaminds me of Ogame and... tribes (whatever it was called).

Basically if you don't log often enough (this usually means you have to login every 30 minutes unless you want to see your city sacked by someone who started playing the game sooner than you) you will find your town in smoking ruins or even better... taken over when you finally do... and most of the time even if you were logged in you couln't do anything about it anyway because his units were several levels above anything you will get for at least several months... and sinnce your town will be looted regularly every 10 hours you will never get the resourcess to make any kind of progress.

Been there done that.

Apparently you haven't looked up any information about this game whatsoever.

Exactly the opposite. You can only be attacked when you are offline. And sieging another town is a risky move, except you're fighting Orcs since they have the worst fortification structures (palisades instead of stone walls). Conventional siege units (i.e. catapults) consumes stones as they hurl their projectiles against enemy walls and unique siege units (i.e. Ogre) may die in the assault. Therefore, sieging requires a lot of resources and efforts, making this game rather turtle-ish instead of zergrush-ish. Also, this is not your typical browser-base town management game, it runs on its own client.

Sounds intresting. Will give it a shot. But I donīt like that you both have to buy it and pay for preminum resuourses. (If it is like most of the games like this.)

Good point re premium items.

Premium items (mostly units) are bought by "wealth". Wealth can be purchased by real cash BUT you can easily earn them in-game by doing PVP and quests. In fact, I can buy the Green Dragon now if I want to.

Also I think I found a trick: FYI you can create multiple towns and delete them after. Say you want to acquire a Green Dragon for your primary town, you can create another town and play early quests until you hit 40 wealth (you start with 25 and each quest gives you 2-5 wealth), buy the dragon then put it in your "bank" (where you store all bought premium items). Then you enter your primary town and "deploy" the dragon from the bank. Voila, you get a Green Dragon worth 40 wealth without spending any wealth from your primary town.

Been looking for a good MMORTS, but don't have a credit card needed to do this trick :(

Can it be confirmed that the money is refunded when you cancel your IGN Prime subscription? Even if you pay by paypal?
The terms of service seem to claim that they will take the first payment out of your account automatically and that all transactions are non refundable.
EDIT:
Also, how much do they charge you for their plans? is it per month, or do they charge for the whole thing? I don't really want to pay an excess of $100, even if it is refunded.
