"...but the attack passes right through!"
« on: February 18, 2012, 11:54:14 am »

The Badger Sow has become enraged!
The spinning Kasatdur Istrul Othlakamloc silver coin strikes The Badger Sow in the upper body, but the attack passes right through!

So, can anyone tell me what just happened? I had not previously attacked it. I was running around at night, and it decided to follow me. When I couldn't outrun it, I turned to fight, and then this happened... I'm not on evil/good ground or anything as far as I'm aware.

As far as I'm aware, thrown coins just pass through enemies.

It has something to do with how small they are, if I recall correctly.

Yep. That's been my experience too.
It happens at other times, for instance you can have anything pass through the feather material in a body, which is the only other place I have seen that message.

Huh. Well, I reported it and supplied a save for reproducing it. http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=5267

I don't see how ANY projectile can just pass through an enemy , why do they even have that reaction text? It either glances off , misses or does damage , passing through would imply that it penetrates but somehow doesn't even tear the skin or bruise anything. It might make sense fighting something supernatural but badgers aren't that ghostly.

Vapour tissues. Feather Tissues. Gelatinous Blob tissues. "Punched Too Many Holes In This Tissue" tissues.
I can see lots of places where this would make sense. Badgers aren't one of them. (Badgers are actually supposed to be anti-supernatural, I've heard)

Badgers have fur, don't they? Could the coin have just grazed the fur?

I can imagine it is in place to stop people from having a crap load of ammunition for throwing aside from arrows/bolts/stones.

Coins are currency and they can only be used as such.

How dare you. This is Dwarf Fortress, and we will not have such slander here!

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

As a Dwarf Fortress player who killed people by throwing vomits at them, using coins as a throwing weapon is very logical to me :)

And a fully solid, dense, piece of gold being thrown at a badger should knock him on his ass easy. (With his skull being jammed through the lower leg etc etc.)

Maybe it magically lands in the mought of the beast,
passes through the gastrointestinal tract
and gets out through the other orifice
