Too many children, one vampire.
« on: February 18, 2012, 12:12:22 am »

Children equal about 60% of the fortress. Some of them start dying. Children have huge opportunity to converse in their free time (which is 12 years worth). So when one child dies, all of their brother's and sisters get pissed off. They start punching and kicking their friend's brains out. Pretty soon the entire fortress is embroiled in a tantrum spiral, which culminates in A HUGE GOBLIN INVASION.

At this point in my fortress I've got the mail tower/underground living and working portion separated by walls and a bridge over a shallow dry moat. The tantrum spiral tears my bridge to pieces. The goblins, the first small wave of about seven anyway, get decimated by my line of crossbows and hastily thrown together militia. However, there is a nearby quarry which reaches into the caverns which was dug separate from my main living area... anyway, the goblins decide that the tantrum spiral will do their work for them and head into the mines to kill some of the more sane and detached dwarves. They kill all of them...

But...

In the highest reaches of the still standing tower...

Live two dwarves. One child, her arm broken and dangling at her side, chasing after the lone and un-damaged shearer...

Poor girl...

I love forts like this... So wild, confused and crazy that you can't even keep up with what's happening long enough to figure out if the shearer is a vampire.

Isn’t it the shearer that’s the vampire?  It is lone and un-damaged after a goblin invasion.  Sounds like it’s a vampire to me.

I used to have an avatar, but I was told to remove it after it kept making people go insane.

Dwarven children have gone the way of the car for me.  I make a atom smasher burrow and put all the children in it along with there parents.  I just wish I call it a juicer and collect all that blood for when a vampire shows up.
