My parents and the computer
« on: February 02, 2012, 06:38:40 pm »

My parents are threatening to put a program on that tells them what I've been doing. Seeing as this would cripple any forum time on weekdays, I'd like to know of any ways to bypass it.

Break the disc?
Delete the downloaded file?

Ask your parents why they want to do that, and fix the problem?

EDIT: If on windows, ctrl-alt-delete, click the "end process" tab, find the process for the program, and click the end button.

Do your parents honestly know more about computers than you do?

I am terrified to ask, but what makes them suspect you're doing anything that needs monitored?

Rather than deflect the investigation, deflect the suspicion so there is no investigation. To be hunted; some hunter needs to consider you prey. Take yourself off the menu before you fall out of the frying pan and into the fire....

Seriously, all of the drug defendant clients my firm deals with look exactly like you'd expect them to, and that's how they got caught....

Well A: I spend a lto of time on my room in here and may be addicted to the computer
and B: No I won't delete it since then they'd know.

But I'm actually thinking that if I get my stuff done quickly and better grades than the past years this might not happen...

...Truean, the problem is that they suspect I play games when I should be doing homework which is... sorta true. (In that I do forums but not games)

Easy, get your grades up and maybe do a few more chores. Not doing your homework is a valid reason for your parents to limit computer use.
Is the problem your working late into the night doing homework that should have been done or not turning it in at all?

Plan A: Chain yourself to the computer and protest against your parent's meddling.

Or, if they have already managed to do it by the time you read this:

Plan B: Begin fasting until they agree to remove said program.

Follow through with those, and I guarantee you that program will have no chance of making a permanent residence on your PC.

I suspect your parents are threatening to install VNC software. Which basically allows them remotely view your desktop from another PC. I've seen it used at businesses by managers who have employees hooked up to the internet constantly.

If Powder Miner considered that to be an option, he would have started doing it a long time ago.

No, what he needs are more drastic measures. Such as protesting or fasting. It's the only way to ensure victory.

My Douchebag( I think he's just parnoid about the whole "teaching unruly highschoolers" gig) biology teacher constantly brags about this sort of software he has on on the biology lab computers. I browse non science realated wikipedia articles all the time in that class. Sometime's I sneak in a little 40k fluff reading.

This made me laugh uncontrollably.

VNC only works if you use it. I got one boss to admit they install it on all the machines just so people know it's there, and that they can be watched at any time.

...I have done my homework by now it was easier than I though O.O. ... ... ... ... ... . The problem was more that I'd intersperse homework time with other time so I took forever. Also that I have a -lot- of homework being in APP (two-grades-up AP) 8th grade.

...Eh. don't really need this thread.
