I often get items displaying elves dying. This pleases me. I currently have an artifact statue of goblins massacring elves, but I'm uncertain what to do about it.

My civ was thoroughly trashed by the elves, then the goblin (to the point that the last 5-6 kings have been gobbo generals who got lucky)
My best engraver seems to be somewhat traumatised by this sad state of affair : Most of his work depicts named elves mauling dwarves : Breaking their legs, punching their teeth out, chopping their ears, ripping their eyelids (yikes!)...

Not what I hoped for when I told him to decorate the hospital...

well, it's effective if you think about it.  "This wil happen to YOU if you don't beat down the elven scum!"

I needed about 20 statues for rooms. My mason best, who is kind of a dick, made 12 statues of himself and 8 statues of his pet cat for other peoples rooms. He was such a dick.

In Windmirrors the top engravings are the standard dwarves traveling/founding the fortress followed by a local dragon incinerating various elves.  I should do a save and check Legends to see if the dragon is still alive and might come visiting.

Following that it is usually either such-and-such dwarf being appointed a militia captain, or some craftsdwarf making a masterpiece item.  If these are statues I put them up in the barracks and crafts area respectively - assuming they are exceptional or masterpiece productions.

The masterpiece stone statue of large roaches was placed near the garbage dump.

Capture the dragon and relive the glory whenever elven traders arrive. Also one of my favorite forts was plastered with engravings and statues of the time I had to remove my militia commander from the military for a moment to fix a "pickup equipment" or other such loop. For years afterward the craftsdwarves were making statues of Dumat Ducimetes making a plaintative gesture.

The elves destroyed a city in the dwarf civilization earlier in the history.  That has come up in engravings and statues as well.  Though I also had a carved figurine of named dragon killing elf made of stone - which I did trade to the elves.   :D

You tend to get more variety if your engraver has high creativity. As in the soul attribute. But yeah fort founding is pretty common for me.

A room full of illithids, centaur, naga and minotaur disembowelments, strikings, mortal woundings and general murderous intent. It's been an active siege year.

Best. ER room. Ever.
"Doctor! How did we fix this dwarf's leg?!" *points to an engraving with the picture of a dwarf crying out in pain with his leg broken*

Hmm:
Guess my dwarfes hate me for not robbing the elves...
Oh, and more renditions of pictures of silk, dwarfes electing mayors etc....
Btw:
The artifact is a turkey bone cage.
I think I will cage turkeys with it.
