Frequently engraved things?
« on: October 18, 2011, 08:09:54 am »

Hi guys,
have you got frequently engraved things/events in you fortress, too?
Post them!
I, for myself, have got the "journey of Gagu Trimflowers during the journey of Gagu Trimflowers"...
Oh, and btw, to let my anger over this out, i have had a strange mood last year (ingame).
K, he gathers minerals, makes a quern.
I am a little bit angry, but it is a legendary mason now after all.
This year, another strange mood, what do I get?
THIS:
The combined Gladness, a diorite millstone

MAN, HE USED GOLD AND STEEL IN THE MAKING+ 2 GEMS.
and with my"knowledge" of power distribution, I cannot even get it to work.....
Btw: on the millstone are 2 pictures of the red zircon statue my now legendary jeweler made....
He's just jealous cause he cannot make something that useful himself.
To top it.....:
IT WAS A DAMN POSSESSION

Millstones and querns are actualy pretty useful. You need them to make dyes and flour. If all you have to eat is whipvine and longland grass,

Well, my engraver seems to make MUCH pictures of  Slaying of Minotaur Omli by some random elf. Dunno why...

Then he made grudge wit about 20 other dwarfs (still don't know why - perhaps they were stealing his chair).

My current fort has a great fondness for a forgotten beast travelling the world. I even minted coins with spare metal. The 'heads' side is said forgotten beast. FB Coins are very win

"... dwarves traveling. This relates to the foundation of Rhythmrazor in the summer of '69"

This post depicts a low quality popular culture reference. This relates to the sleeping pattern of Shinotsa after the foundation of Rhythmrazor by the Rack of Lions.

I often get items displaying elves dying. This pleases me. I currently have an artifact statue of goblins massacring elves, but I'm uncertain what to do about it.

In Windmirrors the top engravings are the standard dwarves traveling/founding the fortress followed by a local dragon incinerating various elves.  I should do a save and check Legends to see if the dragon is still alive and might come visiting.

Following that it is usually either such-and-such dwarf being appointed a militia captain, or some craftsdwarf making a masterpiece item.  If these are statues I put them up in the barracks and crafts area respectively - assuming they are exceptional or masterpiece productions.

The masterpiece stone statue of large roaches was placed near the garbage dump.

Capture the dragon and relive the glory whenever elven traders arrive. Also one of my favorite forts was plastered with engravings and statues of the time I had to remove my militia commander from the military for a moment to fix a "pickup equipment" or other such loop. For years afterward the craftsdwarves were making statues of Dumat Ducimetes making a plaintative gesture.

A rough top 5 from the fortress of Ironbear...

1) Grizzly bears killing named humans in battle (gone into this before)
2) Dwarves laboring or traveling, relating to the founding of the fortress.
3) Goblins falling, dead, or in the fetal position, relating to goblin X's death (In my death pit -- either by colliding with an obstacle, disease, or after some improvements impalement on spikes).
4) Squares, the symbol of the local dwarven civ
5) Crowns, the symbol of the fortress group

The engravings in Rinsebronze were mainly of a cyclops being killed by an elf in the previous century. Not one engraving showed the three cyclops killed by its own residents.

Oh, my old fortress was soo badass:
The symbol of my civ was acave dragon
Half of the engravings were pictures of pictures of cave dragons.
Quite badass, exept for the "pictures of pictures" thingy.
My current civ's symbol is CLOTH...
"This is a finely desinged [name] rendition of a well designed picture of cloth"
bluargh.
Well, can't always have luck...

My civ was thoroughly trashed by the elves, then the goblin (to the point that the last 5-6 kings have been gobbo generals who got lucky)
My best engraver seems to be somewhat traumatised by this sad state of affair : Most of his work depicts named elves mauling dwarves : Breaking their legs, punching their teeth out, chopping their ears, ripping their eyelids (yikes!)...

Not what I hoped for when I told him to decorate the hospital...
