Martial trance without fighting?
« on: September 30, 2011, 04:59:32 pm »

I just got an announcement that one of my recruits had entered a martial trance then another a little later that he'd left it. But There is no report of any combat for him. His current task is defending my "Inside" burrow. I didn't notice the message when he entered the trance, but I noticed when he had left it, so I went to look for him, and he's not even close to any animals, and none of my dwarves are tantruming at the moment.

Anyone have any idea why he might have gone into the trance?

Checked the combat reports yet? He may have been attacked by some wildlife or such.

I think trances can occur even if they just see a hostile. They might not be able to path it but by god if they could that foe would receive such a whopping whatfor.

Actually martial trances don't increase damage, just dodging, blocking and hit chance. It's less of a 'whoop ass' and more of a 'don't get whooped'.

I think going matrix on a guy counts as opening a can of woopass.

Same thing, technically. Black bears have been known to eat dorf livers to catch a buzz.

Elves tend to get hangovers after eating them, too. Seeing as they only drink booze and eats lots of meat and cheese and tallow throughout their entire lifespan, dwarves are a bit like bacon bombs that's been dried out and then soaked in vodka for a few months.

As long as a dwarf considers itself able to see multiple hostiles and few/no friendlies, they will enter a martial trance EVEN IF THEY CAN'T PATH to it. A blind dwarf would have to be surrounded on all sides before trancing as they've only got one tile of sight when blind.
