Conquer the enemy
« on: July 12, 2011, 01:10:37 pm »

Shamelesly copied from another forum game, your goal in this simple game is to capture all the provinces on the map.

Starting:
1. First players choose one country they play. Each color represents one country, except the cyan, which is sea and thus cannot be chosen.
2. After that each player gets 10 units and places them in chosen provinces which they own.

Game rules:
1. Every turn every province generates 5 resources. Those with *-mark will provide double the amount. (Thus every country has same income at the beginning of the game.) Those resources can be spent to buy units (10 resources each.) Units will be placed every third turn (I will note when they can be placed) on province(s) of your choice (you must own the province however).
2. Every unit can move every turn to province (land or sea) next to province it is currently in. If the province is owned by enemy, but has no units, it will be captured and will start generating resources for the new owner. Sea provinces cannot be captured, but units can move trough them normally.
3. If you move to an enemy province that has units in it, battle will be fought over the control of the province. In battle each side loses as much units as the smaller side has, resulting in the bigger army over control of the province. (For example if an army of 3 units attacks an province guarded by 2 units, 2 units will be destroyed from both armies and since other side has one unit left, it will control the province.) If armies are equal, both sides are destroyed and the province will stay on it's original owner.
4. Attack will always be the last phase of the turn, so if player sends reinforcements to support its own province, they will arrive to the province before the attackers.

Note: Also if it is not clear moving to an empty enemy owned province is not considered attack, meaning that you can move your units out of destructions way conquering enemy territory. This will require enemy to be encircled in order to kill it. But for fairness sake, moving to sea province happens after "attack-turn", so encircling all land provinces is enough.

If you have any questions, fire away.

Here is the map:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Choose your country and provide a name to it.

EDIT: Because of the inconvenient placement of the yellow country, I decided to give it one extra *-province, resulting in a bit better income than everyone else.

EDIT2: Also balanced out the orange country a bit, by switching one province between it and green country.

What do the numbers and letters mean on the map?

Numbers are just reference or name of the province to ease my work. So when you move or place units just say for example:
"I place 2 units to A2" or "I move 1 unit from C2 to B5" etc.

And also when the game begins I am going to add placement of your units to the map for conveniences sake.

@Taricus: That's likely how the coordinates for attacking.

Also, Armchair general advice-don't take it seriously. In fact, use these to your advantage-if the enemy thinks one way, do it a different way...

Yellow should attack Blue. Red and Orange will likely be attacking each other for awhile, and green will likely be absorbing orange for easy takeover. Blue really has no choice but to go through you, but you and he could pull off an "unholy" alliance, ala Hitler and Stalin in WW2, shocking the Hell out of everyone. lol

Blue should trounce Yellow, and consider amphibious invasions into green once they have B6/B7/B8. Be the Steamroller. If you come out on top against Yellow, you have a very good chance of carrying the game. Edit: Unholy Alliance is an option-make peace with yellow, and divide up the world.

Green should concentrate on taking orange and it's sweet provinces-you might want to play offense, since if Orange concentrates on you, they will lose their holdings near Red. Use the advantage of numbers. In fact, if Yellow gets involved with Blue, you'll have free reign on them too.

Orange. Tough position. Abandon your holdings borderering red and go to war against green-or, commit all your resources to destroying red, while losing your land to green. Don't do half and half, or you lose everything. Be aggressive, since you will probably lose one side or the other-take as much as you can. If you survive past the first few turns, you'll have a pretty defensible power base, and have options to strike wherever you want. This is the hardest color to play, in my opinion.

Red. Destroy Orange, and unite your lands. If you don't, they surely will. Afterwards, your in a good position for whatever you want to do. You might survive just because no one wants to go out of their way and leave themselves open. Move onto the mainland as soon as possible, so you don't get boxed into your little continent. Playing defense will only make you lose slower.

Also, I might make little roleplaying news snippets for fun-I'll be watching this game. :)

I still think the risk way of combat would work best and also have boats cost money

I quite dislike luck-based systems, which means no dice.

Also if it is not clear moving to an empty enemy owned province is not considered attack, meaning that you can move your units out of destructions way conquering enemy territory. It was not meant to be it's own country. Fixed it in OP.
