I'm thinking I might make Kobolds make more children per birth, if I can figure out modding. That may help them survive.

You can see the kobold raws in this article down, need to open it. Under the female cast there is a clutch size, increase it from 1:2 to whatever pleases you in your own raws. From 1 up to 2 eggs is it now if I understand it correctly, you can change for example to 10:20 for from 10 to 20 eggs.

However they still are likely to starve I'd guess, as they have serious problems with food afaik.

The basic fact is that they still are just small k's, and stealing and killing your dwarves. Oh and not to mention that they enjoy torturing for fun. Does that seem "cute" to you ?

Not to mention that if they truly wanted a hug, they would use other means than stealing and killing, I think.

Hehe, actually i just like tales where the Dwarves integrate other species unto their societies. The stories are always inspiring/interesting/entertaining...some examples:

catch massive armies of gobbos and perch them into a large room with nextboxes in sidepockets that can be barred off and one can breed those bastards^^

seems like a nice longterm project on trying to gain a gobbo force of your own^^
