Holy shit. I didn't know that pressure plates don't recover instantly.  :'(
If only they did.  Then dwarf-puters would be more than mere impractical megaconstructions.  They'd actually run fast enough to gain sentience and take over your fortresses.  All we'd need after instant response pressure plates are mechanical triggers: a trigger that, when its power input changes (gains or loses power), sends a toggle signal like any other lever. If we had that, we could make 100% mechanical logic gates.  A dorf can dream.
