Dying animals..
« on: March 09, 2011, 03:35:26 pm »

Does any of you guys know anything about animals? The wiki claim that animals do not require food, but my animals are dying like mad of starvation (I even have plenty of meat/plants in stock).. "Stray Buck Rabbit (Tame) has starved to death.", it's not just rabbits mind you.. And I just captured 4 horses and tamed them.. Really cool!

The wiki is outdated.  In the current version, some animals need to graze.  You will need to pasture them somewhere where there is enough grass for them to survive.  For very large animals, this can be difficult.

Pay attention to the most recent release notes.  .19 and later, grazing animals, namely horses, rabbits, sheep, etc, eat grass and need to be placed in a pasture zone.  This zone is defined from the "i" menu, and assigned like a pit/pond.

Recently a number of animals have been made to now require pastures to feed on. You can designate these from the zones menu (i).

Just remember to make it large enough so that they are not crowded. Otherwise they will start to fight.

Elephants and rhinos die anyways.  They get hungry faster than they can eat.  Small tweaking may be required in future updates :P

Even with the .21 release? Modding the raws you solve it, right?

Also, my animals fight even with a LARGE(namely 1k pasture) area.

If you want you can mod the raws so they no longer eat.

Read the changelogs.

Failing that, read the forums. This has come up at least fifty times that I've seen since .19 came out. We have that lovely "search" option for a reason.

A wiki's info can and often will be somewhat outdated.
