Yes, out of all that stuff, he made a ring.  A very nice ring, no doubt about it.  But, a ring. 

I feel sorry for the dwarf who had to clean up all the unused scraps.

It puts me in mind of the dwarf who did the complete opposite.  He made a barrel out of one -- one! -- raw gem stone.

That's the thing about artifacts, though. No matter what type of items they use, or how many, the end result will always be the opposite of what you'd either expect or need. I once got two artifact floodgates in a fort with no access to water.

I got an artifact mace for my champion warrior who had nothing to fight.

HOWEVER!

I did get a door made out of SOLID RUBY.  Needless to say, Queens a happy lady right now.

In honesty, it's really impressive (and it's worth like 100k dwarfbucks); I just wish he hadn't used so much stuff to make it:



He must have used the remnants of all the other materials to build the teeny tiny tools needed to carve out all those teeny tiny details.  I had to commemorate the event of all that work he did gathering the materials for such a teeny tiny little artifact.

I just assume they cut a chunk off the things they use and leave all the rest in the corner of the workshop forgotten.
Later a dwarf that makes a floodgate out of a single kitten bone actually just grabs a kitten bone and incorporates all the leftover junk lying about into the design.

Huh.  Why'd he put the king in 139, the Midnighthag Bridegroom king in 36, and THEN the queen in 140...?  Is he comparing the queen of 140 to the Midnighthag Bridegroom or something?  Political commentary on that ring, yo.
