How to remove equipment from prisoners?
« on: April 06, 2011, 10:38:19 am »

I see people talking about being able to remove equipment and clothes from trapped creatures/goblins.  How is this done?

(d)esignations menu, (b) for item orders. select reclaim, and use this to make a box over the units you want to strip. this will first unforbid thier gear. Once this is done, go back into (d) and (b) and use the dump option to make a box over the units you just reclaimed from. your idlers will rush to the scence and haul thier stuff to a garbage dump zone (assuming you have one - suggest one very close to the prisoners for increased efficiency). simply reclaim the gear from the dump. note that this will also dump the cages/mechanisms used to hold the prisoners - you might want to reclaim them afterwards to prevent them ending up dumped into magma or suchlike.

I think it does not work with "not built"(sitting on the animal stockpile) cages. As hauling them to pens and to butcher won't work either

I didn't build mine and it worked perfectly.  They were sitting on the animal stockpile.  I made sure I only said thanks after I confirmed it worked :)

There's a more complicated way to do this that involves hiding objects so that you only dump specific things.  This is useful if you want to dump unarmed, but armored, prisoners into your barracks.  Which you might want to do since armored prisoners will take more abuse, thereby giving your military more practice.

Do the same thing where you (d)esignate->(b)ulk->dump and (d)esignate->(b)ulk->reclaim and go over everything.  Then (d)->(b)->hide over everything as well.  Now go into your (z)->stocks menu and scroll through, looking for items that are selected for dumping and hidden - these are the things you just selected, versus other objects which you may have already designated as dumped, or forbidden that you don't want to mass-reclaim at the moment.  Un-dump anything you don't want dumped (such as armor and cages) and leave dump on anything you do (such as weapons).  Then (d)->(b)->unhide everything, and you're good to go - your dwarves will show up and disarm, but leave armored, all your prisoners.

And of course when you are done disarming everyone do the (d)->(b)->reclaim on your garbage pile to reclaim all the dumped weapons and such for trading, using, melting down, etc.

I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.
I just hope he dies the same death that all dwarfs deserve: liver disease.
