Hm... What if you set worldgen to create a 100% (pure) *EEEEEVVVIILLLL* world?  Do undead animals count for the age of emptiness? (Which requires only that all civs die of *IN WORLDGEN*.  If you kill them all in adventure, the civs will still exist and you'll get only the age of death at best.  New traders, migrants, invaders will all spawn for you still in fortress mode, because the civs still exist with pop=0.  Also, you always get two waves of migrants, even if your race is extinct.)
