This ought to be fun.
I've actually been thinking of making a Homestuck-style-rules-light homebrew to play with my real life group.

Using wine is not the same as running a program on linux.
And I know they're working on a linux client. But one, it's not out yet. Two, I dislike steam in general anyway and don't want to sign up for it.

Well, we are sorry, but losing you is worth all the features we gain.

I don't think we had to *say* that.

I totally understand that Wine isn't perfect, although it sounds like it got better since I last used it several years ago.  I know people play WoW through it without much trouble.

Disliking Steam is general I also understand, but I feel you're mistaken.  While it has issues on the day of major releases, in general, it's worked really well for me.  My desktop doesn't even have a cdrom drive.  I use it to keep in daily contact with my brother, besides my set of gaming friends (also "friends", who are just players who were decent to play with once).  I'm probably an unusual case, but still, I get a lot of use from it.

My problem with steam has more to do with DRM than anything. Oh well. Have fun with the games shadow.

This may actually turn out to be part of a process that I'll be living off of. At least I hope.

If you have issues with DRM, just pirate the game.
It's not going to interfere with Steam in any way.

I don't have problems with DRM in and of its self. I have problems with how it's implemented more often than not. And when I buy a game I want to have an actual disk. Call it old fashioned but that's how I am.

Personally I prefer a digital medium because I'm afraid the disk will get scratched.

That part was more directed at the digital distribution not drm.

A Gold Rush game has been attempted, and it was a disaster, I'll copy paste why.

Failure. The game actually worked to a degree, but multiple factors resulted in a clunky and collapsing experience.

-Players leaving: Can't blame you guys really, you had stuff to do.
-Sloth-like GM reactions: There was simply too much to work on, granted Warcamp can be really demanding, but it seems as if games with large amounts of cards is simply too much for me to handle.
-Interface: The requirement of switching between typewith.me chat, the typewith.me board, the rules txt, and Steam(for cards), was simply hard to keep track of. My experiance was compounded, as I had to switch between all of those in addition to the data txt, Apprentice(for drawing cards), and random.org.

I'll very likely not be hosting another of these in a manual form. What I need is a suitible card managing program that allows a interface between all players, customizable cards, free-form playing field with allowance for multiple decks, and face down cards. Exkirby suggested a BYOND program, but I can't work that interface, and I do not think it would meet all the criteria.

If I can get such a program I'll gladly attempt to host another game, purhaps even joining you guys as a player
