What makes a race not have a capital city?
« on: January 10, 2010, 11:37:23 am »

I've added in a new race, and they consistently have no capital.  It's very odd.  They always say "There isss no capital" in adventurer mode.

It's not [ITEM_THIEF], as they still had no capital before I made 'em steal stuff to force wars (plus I just checked, and kobolds have capitals...).  It's also not them using TREE_CITYs, since elves have capitals.  It's probably something stupid and obvious, but I dunno what. :( Maybe [SAVAGE] or [LARGE_PREDATOR]?

I tested it, and removing [LARGE_PREDATOR] while leaving in [SAVAGE] made them have capitals.

Time to edit that in to the wiki.  It could be useful to know how to remove capitals from a race.  Like kobolds probably shouldn't refer to their civ's single cave as their capital (if you mod in [CAN_SPEAK]).

Kobold LARGE_PREDATORs, hee.  The world will burn!

Hm.  Adding LARGE_PREDATOR to kobolds has them still referring to their cave as a capital.  Ditto for LARGE_PREDATOR plus SAVAGE.  Poop.

By the way, you should mod in their two-bladed swords while you're at it.

I think the whole capital thing is random, really. I've had tons of human civs tell me that there is not capital, despite there being many, many towns for it to be.

It depends if they have a single ruler, and it's worldgen-related.
