It's kind of annoying that people view any sort of move to expand as some sort of corporate evil-doing.

Large corporations have repeatedly shown an utter disregard for humanity. Perhaps people are a little tired of being (legally) bent over the table by faceless conglomerates and view such rabid capitalism with suspicion.
Or perhaps people aren't forward-thinking enough to realize that those faceless conglomerates are why a world economy...y'know, works. Econonoprimitivism is the available alternative to corporate growth--unless you just want to rename all the corporations to "the government" and be in the exact same situation.

and...? It doesn't change the fact that large corporations have shown time and time again they don't have people's best interest at heart. Insurance companies for example are in the business of ruining lives. People who pay insurance policies their entire working lives are treated like dirt when they need help the most. People are left to suffer, to lose their homes and to die.  This is not okay. Laws are passed because corporations have the lobbying power to get what they want. Not too long ago a drug company was able to have pyridoxamine, a naturally occuring B vitamin declared as a drug, thus any health product that contained this on the market suddenly becomes illegal. It's a sad world when your health is in the hand of people who stand to make a profit.

... ANYWAY

Anyone ever seen a story, about this alien who chats with a guy through a text messager. The alien being a creature who was uploaded onto a ship, basically a giant flying Internet of people, and his talking about just what it's all about?

Individuals are fungible. If you don't want to be fungible, be a standout who is more valuable than the next guy. Such is life.
