Thanks,
I was actually only going to use a few (only 8 traps so far).   Nothing that would kill the challenge just a primitive defense in case they showed up the first summer.  (though I suppose its  a mute point now,  due to fortress design I have alternate ways to kill a large group of orcs (that does not involve drowning them or a massive line of spike traps(also I have immigrants now which can be assigned to military duties to kill the orcs).

It will be interesting though if they show up before the next caravan (I did not embark with an anvil and usually trade for my first one).  So if they come I probably wont be able to kill a large group of them and without the ability to smith iron weapons, a limited supply of wood… (though I suppose I can just wait it out as I have access to an infinite source of pig tails, plump helmets, and cave wheat (though I am sure they will trash the mill))  should of embarked in an area with magma o well.

From the description of the event, I think that your copy of Dwarf Fortress was on drugs when this happened. That's surely the only logical explanation for a human werewolf with deadly farts dying from it's own excrement after slaughtering some goblins comrades.

It's your wealth. There is nothing wrong with your DF, you just aren't good at dwarf economics yet. It's understandable; my second fort ran for 10 years and only made ~4 million in wealth. Now on my 6th major endeavor, I have 11 million after 5 years. I have yet to lose a fort, but I'm sure something crazy will happen eventually.

Goblins will hit you at the beginning-middle of every season once you get good at making an economy. Orcs require a created wealth of 100k in a season to send the first siege, so if you run a fort for 14 years with 1.32 million you may never see an orc siege. If you want to be sure of a good siege, murder the human caravan. They come full-strength for the sake of revenge, not caring about your created wealth or anything like it. The aforementioned 2nd fort suffered the death of a human diplomat, and my 47 dwarf fortress saw a 50 human siege. Bear in mind I had ~10 children. So, like I said, the humans are guaranteed to give you a fun time.

Once you learn to control the artifact side of Dwarf Fortress and prepare for artifacts carefully, you won't see anything worth less than 100k. Sometimes you're really, really unlucky and some dwarf wants to make an item out of 2 stone or a single piece of pig tail cloth. Even then you can give them at least some platinum nuggets and a dyed cloth worth around 300.

If they use a lot of materials, it's much easier to get things worth over 1 million each.

… … …
I would really like to know how, blood thirsty, orcs with brains smaller than a caterpillas are smart enough  to not to set off, disable, or avoid traps.  Luckily in the hall way that I have placed the stone fall traps in I can flood fairly easily and drown the bloody green skins to death (though I am going to attempt to avoid a cheap tactic like that, if it comes to it I think I would rather flood the fortress and kill everyone all together.

That's where you're wrong. These aren't the stupid orcs. They have steel, even crucible steel (something even most dwarves don't have access to). They're huge, strong, have clawed hands in Dig Deeper, and as smart if not smarter than the dwarves. It will take every ounce of your strength and ingenuity to defeat them. Orcs are not for the faint of heart, they will kill you. That's their whole purpose in lie.

Also, if you modded in the orcs without genning a new world, you won't see them.
