I just wanna figure out why my dwarf can't turn a stack of 50 bones to 250 bolts.

The bones weigh 250 and maybe dwarves can't turn a stack of 50 bones to bolts. 50 bone=250 bolts.

Nonsense. I've made bolts out of dragon bones before.

I've modded mine to be size 50. ;D

hmm...

1: mod cats to size 50
2: (non thermonuclear)catsplosion
3: butcher cats for training bolts
4: ???
5: profit

I recall that it's possible for an item to become permanently tasked for something, can anyone else do anything with the bones? (say, dump them or move to a stock pile...)  if that's the case maybe channel under the bones then see if you can do something with them once they've been moved that way?

Well I dumped and claimed but they aren't being moved to the stockpile even with get refuse from outside and my dwarf won't touch it.

so a dorf moved them to a dump zone and you reclaimed them and your crafter still won't touch them at all? I gots nuffin'

Try putting job cancellation to announce all job cancellation, If it's getting cancelled for some vague reason you should get some message from that.

Sometimes a job will be started, but not finished. It will show up like any other incomplete task in the building's talk list, but I think only the dwarf who started it can continue working on that specific item. Maybe try removing the "make bone bolts" job, and assigning a new "make bone" job.

(One of my masons stopped working on a door, leaving a Marble sitting in the workshop. The other mason with only Masonry enabled did not take that job, but idled until I removed the "contruct rock door" order from the workshop and added a new a-d order.)

I did what both of you say but the only message i'm getting is job cancel for no bones to use.

Edit: My butcher shop has CLT next to it.

Actually, I'm currently experiencing a similar problem, though it is with mules that I modded to breed, to the point where I had a mule-splosion, and was giving butchering orders every three minutes.

I noticed something was amiss when I saw 200 mule bones in my inventory, but my bone carver was giving messages about no bones being left for decorating. For some reason, despite my army of jobless haulers, the 200 bones, along with fat and skulls, were still in my butcher's shop and would not be touched.

Since the modding is the common element, perhaps that is the problem?

I modded them to have the intelligent tag so it probably caused the dwarves ethics to stop them from using the bones.

Edit: They will now use the bones to make a stack of 250 bolts.
