That is usual. When you free him, check for injuries, because if he shared the same pit with GCS, he could get wounded, and wounded dwarves fall unconcious at cage traps.
If you want to free him, build lever, build cage(bjx-choose "dwarf cage(Copper)"), connect the lever to cage, pull the lever. Note that caged dwarves need food and drinks too.

That's actually perfect. The noble has everything he or she wants... but can't sleep.

It's like, I dunno, Saw, or something.

Especially if it's covered in weapon traps with steel war hammers so that if when the noble eventually loses it, things get hammered.

Maybe you can capture a dwarf by launching empty cages off of a bridge and have them fall on top of a dwarf? It works for creatures.

Same thing happened to me last time I caught a GCS. Bait got knocked prone or webbed or something on a trap, and was caught.

Build the cage, link it to a lever, pull the lever. Have a military dwarf or three nearby in case he's insane or similar.
