I think spaying animals is a bit too advance for this time period.

They were spaying humans over two thousand years ago.

Would it be done at a kennel, or a butcher?  "N:  Mark for Neutering"

It should give the owner a happy thought, since it would reduce the risk of his bed obtaining a layer of cat pee.

Bottom line: what you are suggesting is a physical impossibility

Wait, what about a self-sustaining fortress with absolutely no energy/mineral input?

I think that a hunger system will/would be awesome as you would have an entire ecosystem simulator, don't mess with nature or else an crisis would go as follows: you cut down trees> herbivores die of hunger> low level carnivors will raid fortress for food > low level carnivores die > alpha carnivores go mad and assault fortress, esp. aquatic animals with access to fortress through water system  ;D

But I agree with Byak, the animals must remain in a pack or else they are not a threat, even a skeletal

Excuse me, but spaying of animals shouldn't even be done in ASCII. Think how you would feel if you had your balls removed! The kennels should include a neuter dwarf option to even this all out :D

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Same reason women get periods?
