Hmm, can I take one of the female fishery workers and turn them into a butcher?

Name: Flamey
Profession: Butcher
Description: Soft-spoken and a little reclusive, but really enthusiastic about her work. Has a tendancy to cling to individuals she trusts.

Have fun. :P

Caiman's Journal.
Date - Can't remember.

Bah. Useless slacker guard. Lay his grubby hands on me when I point out that all he's done is swagger up and down the halls everywhere. Well, forget him. I'm not talking to him unless I have to. He'll appreciate me soon, when I make the finest weapon he's ever seen. He'll beg me to use it, and I will reply "nay." Unless I'm having a good day.

This fortress is eerie. If it weren't for the gold--that beautiful, shining treasure trove of gold--I'd never have come here.

That guard better do his job, whatever it is. And get some blasted dining tables! Those are simple necessities of life!

I like the dwarf you picked out. Thanks, Mr. Scorpio. Wonder if his girlfriend will be claimed soon...

No, I think the cook would be in charge of sugar-coating the cows.

You are a lifesaver! Round and probably in tropical flavors.

In Lorbam's office, 18th Hematite;

"So, what's the status Sheriff?"
"Well sir, it's not exactly ordinary. All the items on the fortress's stock records are accounted for, but none of them seem to be in any one place. It's like they were all evenly distributed in a circular pattern across the fort grounds. The clothes and the bodies are still a bit of a mystery, but we got a real doozy when one of the boys came across this bit."
Reg held up a large reflective black idol and placed it on the Expedition leader's desk.

"Hmm.  Most curious. What's that it's made of?"
"That's just the thing. That metalworker Caimen says he's never seen anything like it before."
"What about Lor? He's a metalworker too, maybe he knows something about it?"
"Lor? He's locked in the magma works. Won't say a word."
"Well, send someone down to get-"

Lor burst into the room, a long, slender black spear in his hands.
"Jaj'kahl from the core of the mountain. His arm comes, answers thus the world, "And so die those who flee." The spear fell from his hands, and he collapsed on the ground. Lorbam simply stared at the spear, transfixed. Reg let out a sigh and walked over to Lor. "Damnit Lor, I thought I told you to quit these drinking games. Alright, let's get you back to your room..."

He dragged Lor out of the office, leaving Lorbam alone with the black spear. He sat back in his chair and stroked his beard. "Most curious indeed."

Looks like Caimen has a rival. A rival who is a legendary weaponsmith.

From the journal of Reg Decimmomuz;

Another day, another freak wanting my attention. This time it was some butcher, Flamesy or Flamer or something. Armok, can't these people solve their own problems? I'm a guard, not a clerk. I sent her off to Lorbam, he can deal with these dwarves. I've got a busy schedule.

The hauling work is dying down, so the good captain Lorbam is allowing certain dwarves to move their attention to their usual labors. The moment that one mechanic heard about it she rushed off to find Lor. She's a crazy one, going to watch what she's got planned.

There's still no word from the Mountainhome as to what to do now that we're here. Looks like we'll be the honorary owners of this place for quite a while. Or maybe just until we clean the crap off the floor and the nobles come to take it all away, bunch of fat lazy pigs. Never do a days work and then claim all the rewards for themselves.

Well, that metalsmith's been acting odd. He just put together his own forge and won't let anyone near it. He's been making weapons all days, mostly bolts and axes. Maybe if Lor drinks himself to death we can have a backup. And there's another thing, turns out Lor is a girl. She took a bit of offense when I told her to have some balls and quit taking breaks- how was I supposed to know? We all have beards down to our stomachs and thick, Dwarven features. But that Terminator guy, he doesn't take offense to anything. A good friend he is, doesn't talk back and follows orders. And he doesn't make rash accusations, some people could learn from him.

Really this place is a travesty. A complete mess. It's been months since we've arrived and there are still cow bones in the meeting hall. Sometimes I think the previous owners did this and ran off just to spite me.

A scrawling on the wall of the Mines of the Koganustan, signed R.M.;

Goblins. Goblins everywhere. They keep coming, they got some people, I don't know who. I hear the sounds of fighting up above me, the ground beats like a great black heart beneath me. Oh Gods, he knows. He knows we're here.

I'm the sheriff. I should be fighting but I'm not. I'm not because these aren't really goblins. Goblins don't come from thin air, I saw them. I saw them. Oh Armok, they're not real. But they're killing people.

Someone pushed me down here. Someone closed the door. That's why I'm not fighting, that must be why. I'm locked here in the dark and the Goblins are killing everyone and I can't get out of this Armok damned tunnel. He knows we're here! I don't know who he is, but he does. He knows everything.

I have to get out. Here is what brought them. It's here! It's got to be, it's that damned metal! It's the adamantine.

No, stop. You're Reg. I'm Reg.

That weird one. Terminator. He pushed me in here. I was going for my axe, I left in the cellars, and he grabbed my shirt and threw me in here like a sack of potatoes. What's with him? How does he do that? How does he do those things? Lor. Armok, what happened to Lor? I can't hear anything but crashing upstairs.

Oh Gods. Oh please. I'm sorry.  I'm sorry everybody. I just want to get out of here. Please, just someone get me out. I can hear him. He knows I'm here.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Jesus jumped up Christ. I was going to stop posting here, but I had to write something for this. 5 consecutive Goblin ambushes, they pushed their way past my traps with sheer manpower.

Now I've got a good 20 Goblins in cages. Taking suggestions as to what to do. You know, if the fortress survives. Which it will, most definitely.

Not. Fortress kabloom. But, that is not the end. Not by a long shot. This is only the beginning.

Just my luck...

Oh, just leave the goblins to rot...

I'll be emo over there, now. (I liked the name Caiman. Used it 'cause I was certain this dwarf would last. Guess not. Gotta think of a new name now...dang... Oh, well. That's DF for ya...)
