I like lead. Lead is a heavy metal.

It took me a while to realize you weren't talking about music.

I would never have guessed, with a name like Led.
How about Pitchblende Hindenburg?

I think we can all agree that that which enters the top 30 charts, like with games, is generally crap with the occasional genuine gem rising to the top.

But that's true of EVERYTHING!  Sturgeon's Law:  90% of everything is crap.  Sure, 90% of the stuff at the top is awful.  But so is 90% of the rest of it!  You just don't care if music you've never heard of is crap, because who are you going to complain to?  Someone else who's never heard of it?  :)
A basic law of the universe: crap floats to the top.

Opeth (proggessive death metal) owns all other bands!
Other good bands:
Nightwish (Symphinic power)
Tool (proggessive)
Amorphis (was Melodic Death metal, but not really death metal anymore)
Insommnium (Melodic Death)
Dream Theater (Proggesive)
Emperor (black)
Within Temptation (symphonic)
Black Sabbath (if you don't know them you fail at music)

Insommnium (Melodic Death)

I think the new stuff from Amorphis is better, personally.

And Insomnium, I have never heard a bad song by them. Drawn to Black is amazing.

Cobalt, Mercury and Vanadium would be pretty good names for metal bands.

Also I think that Sonata Artica deserves a mention as well. It's certanly not the kind of metal that people ususaly think off, but I can't quite fit it into another kind of music.

Areyar has been accosted by cute vermin recently.

Stepped barefoot on a dying bumblebee to be precise, so Metallica gets bonuspoints for their rendition of a musical serenade to a flying bumbler 'FotBB'.
