The Monastic Challenge:
Live a life completely free of luxury.

No engravings.  No smoothing stone.  No beds.  No statues.  No waterfalls.  No windows.  No precious metals (silver, gold, rose gold, platinum, etc.)  And certainly no gems!

Additional challenge (mix and match)
- only eat 1 kind of food
- only make 1 kind of booze (wine would be the most authentic)
- don't allow any booze
- copy a "holy book".  engrave every single square that's NOT a part of your actual fort.
- be a completely pacifist group - options are:
    - no traps
    - no military
    - no traps OR military
    - do not harm a single attacker
- give to the poor (you must give away all your excess food or crafts to the wagons each season.)
- do not allow any dwarf's skills to get above talented. 
- do not use any furniture that is + or higher.
- farm outdoors only
- do not allow any of your dwarves to cave adapt
- any dwarf that tantrums must immediately be killed ("exiled") for not fitting in with the monestary's requirements.

Hatchery of DOOM

Theoretically possible, but I have never seen it done.(see sig for disclaimer)

-Capture large fish(like carp) in cages.  Placing the cage traps then allowing river water to flow in through floodgates should work.

-tame fish. The cages should prevent air drowning.

-release fish into dwarven made storage pool(place cage in dry pool, add lever, flood pool, pull lever)

-breed fish

-?

-profit!
