alarm / Meeting zone idea
« on: April 01, 2009, 06:42:22 am »

well what happens with my dwarfs sometimes is when i have an ambush or siege my marks drawfs go up to the towers i mage near the entrance and around my fort to kill the goblins, now if a hunter is killed by the goblins all the sudden they go out to get the dwarf and his stuff and die then more come out and more...and they after its sorted they're drowning themselves and making it a hassle to get my fort in order again...

so i would suggest a way of setting it so you could select an alarm setting so when on all the non military units would go to a meeting zone closest and ignore other jobs such as cutting trees picking up equiptment and dead bodies.

Hey.

In dwarf fortress press "o" and then "F".
Now you've reached the menu in which you can tell your dwarves NOT to claim your dead or their dropped items. After the danger is over you can go to the item and select what you want to reclaim.

If there's a whole battlefield of fallen dwarves just press "d" and choose "b" from the menu.. then choose "c" from the new menu to reclaim items. Select the entire battlefield area and your dwarves will be going out to gather it.
You can also hide, remove, dump, melt, forbid and etcetera items in that menu.

There already is. in
  • rders you can order your dwarves stay inside, or only allow military outside. Then your dwarves won't go and kill themselves. Or you can d-b-f forbid the corpse and all the gear, so you dwarves won't pick them up. Or you can go to orders-menu and make everything dropped automatically be forbidden, so the game does the task for you. Or you can shut your main gate so dwarves can't get out:)

What are you talking about, this isn't already in. Instead of heading to the closest meeting area, which would be awesome, dwarves keep trying to take outside jobs and dancing around the entrance making it very hard to seal off your fortress and such.

even better is if the alarm played FM radio as well!

We need FM radio in DF.
