Dining room
« on: March 01, 2009, 04:19:26 pm »

I haven't been designating dining rooms for tables yet, just putting a meeting area zone in the area with the tables/chairs. i was wondering how it worked specifically:

1. if i designate a dining room but don't assign it, will the first dwarf to use that table claim it like they do with bedrooms?

2. if a designated dining room contains other tables and chairs that are just set to 'free', will they still count as being part of that dining room when a dwarf uses them?

2a. i.e. if the designated dining room has an artifact or two constructed in it and counts as 'royal' or whathaveyou, will dwarves eating at the additional tables in that dining room get the associated positive 'ate in an awesome dining room' thoughts?

1: No.

2: They count as part of the dining room. Just don't make each table it's own dining room. That lowers the value of ALL of them to 25% if they actually share a time.

2a: Yes.

Wood?  Real dwarves carve their rooms out of stone.

Everything is artifact stuff, covered in wood.  Not made of wood, just covered in it.

Ok, just making sure.  As long as it pissed the elves off.

It's steel covered in stone covered in wood covered in magma then covered in some more steel and wood. Oh and some bones too. I'm sure a few of the chairs even have gems.

I hate the attend party thing, haven't designated a dinning room for ages. But now I feel I want to make an epic one, does anyone know how to avoid the parties if your doing that?

Designate a dining room and not a meeting area.
I've found that any time I have a meeting area, someone organises a party just when I want stuff done urgently with every dwarf in the fort.
Such as removing stuff from the trade depot without having to deconstruct it and have it all dumped.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.
