Well problems.
« on: February 28, 2009, 01:41:03 pm »

I have two wells built on a platform approximately 5 z-levels above my brook. The dwarves can't seem to decide whether it really works or not. My booze just ran out, so I've had ample opportunity to observe their behavior with the well.

Usually, they walk to it, flash a "?" as soon as they get there, and then immediately leave, presumably to find a drink elsewhere. However, I have seen a couple of dwarves successfully drink from it, and I have seen a dwarf successfully carry water to a wounded dwarf from it.

Any ideas why it sometimes works, but usually doesn't?

Channeled the tiles immediately beneath the wells, and all adjacent tiles to be safe. Same thing still happens - a few dwarves drink successfully, most do not.

I have 8 separate "water" zones for each well - n, s, e, w, ne, nw, se, sw.

I have a "water source" zone placed on all sides of the wells.

Try a 3x3 zone with the well in the middle.

I dunno if it'll do any good, but it can't hurt.
