this is at least remotedly possible. try "make bismuth item".

Actually, making a bar of bismuth will count towards that.  I discovered this by accident while trying to make a silver statue for a 1/1 mandate.  I when I tried placing the statue, I found that it had not yet been made, even though the silver mandate had been met. The metal industry was not yet up and running at full swing, so that was the only silver project at the time.

As a side note, this can also be used to fulfill the adamantine mandate without wasting the good stuff.

When your tantruming Dungeon Master destroys your death-trap bridge for your pets.  That's all well and good, hey, a dead Noble.  However, when a legendary bone carver and two Champions who have been in the military for over 20 years die because of it?!?!?
Also of worthy note, the Dungeon Master isn't dead  -.-   Fortunately the wounds will handle that soon enough. 
Edit: Also, one of he champions had 13 kids.  I'm to lazy to check, but I'm fairly sure about half of them or so fell with her to their death.  Maybe I should use them to make totems...

Actually, it didn't work. It worked for every other request involving metal items though, so maybe bismuth is bugged somehow?

Quite possibly.  I last used that trick a few versions ago, too.
