Player presses "k" to look around, focuses on his Trade Depo/Windmill/Weaponstockpile/PlumpHelmet/Anything and hits "Mystery key X."  And an in game description of the buildings use and statistics pops up.

Core58, DOCUMENTATION, (Future): The in-game documentation is dire -- not quite like the Dire Wolf of the Pleistocene, but more like a "dire economic forecast". Any of manual improvements, context-based help with the mouse, or an in-game encyclopedia might make the game more accessible, along with tutorials and more graphical options.

Isn't it easier just to have the wiki open in a browser window alongside Dwarf Fortress?

Playing a cheesemaker in an average Fortress 'round here would be. Freaking. Terrifying.

Alt tabbing or pressing F11 and making Today one work less?

PLEASE... ohh PLEASE tell me that it is not becoming common place to call a Glossary a Wikipedia?

I am being serious... This is as bad as seeing people write "LOL" in letters and Essays.

I think it's easier to have it open myself, otoh, right click on something to get it's wiki page?  It's like a continuously updated manual in your application at the cost of adding a single line of code (more for error checking).

In case you didn't go to the link

Code: [Select]
        private void GetWiki(string Topic)
        {
            string webURL = "http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/" + Topic;

            System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(webURL);
        }

Is the long and short of it  (I stripped the error handling.  You'd also need to #include the correct system files, and probably wrap it in a 'Windows only' compiler def)

Yes, someone here agrees with me.  Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia run by the Wikimedia Foundation.  A wiki is a server side software used by Wikipedia that makes other encyclopedia-like sites usually commited to a particular topic, like the Dwarf Fortress Wiki for example.  An encyclopedia is a repository of information regarding some subjects.  An Almanac is repository of information regarding political, geological, or any special events through recent history.  And a glossary contains brief information about a word within a medium (usually a textbook, but also like the DFWiki in a sense).  Anything else can be learned by STAYING IN SCHOOL, CHILDREN!

I know the Civilization Games by Sid Meier call its in-game glossary "Civilopedia" and other games had unique names too.  Maybe it should be called Dwarfopedia?

But yeah, I agree we really need an updated in-game documentation that can be accessed by the "magic button" when highlighting a keyword.
