Let's Party! Where? How about by the fortress's Watc

...For the love of god, why must the party on the outskirts by the wardogs meant to watch for ambushes!.

Chains probably shouldn't be the objects of parties.

They should only do that if the chain is designated as a room.

Or if you don't have a meeting hall designated. Don't dwarves default to meeting and partying out where the wagon was - which might just happen to be where this guy created the entrance to his fort.

Try designating antoher room as a meeting hall, dinning hall, etc and your dwarves should party there instead.

I had two dining rooms designated as meeting halls.

They still prefered the chain.

If you make the chain a room, and it's not designated for justice, it's a zoo.  Is there a need for a chain room if you just want to plant dogs there?

In which case, this is a misunderstanding on how to use chains.

In designating the room I was thinking about "how far can the dog travel?" as opposed to it being turned into a zoo.

Forgive me if I'm being too forward, but a lone guard dog tied to a post is a pretty piss-poor zoo.

A dog attached to a chain may only go as far as the 8 directly adjacent squares surrounding the chain.

Haha.
Very funny.  Adding that to the quote archive.
