There are no 'random encounters' in DF currently- merely procedural ones.   Encountering a group of goblins in a forest means that there were in fact a group of goblins on that tile when you went by.   Of course, as more stuff happens across the world, there will be more things you can encounter.

like maybe you find some treasure or some food or a fairy gives you a masterpiece sword and yes merchants would be a good idea (I was in a hurry when I wrote the first post that's why it was so bad)

Hurray gravy fairies more KoL is needed in this world ;D ;D ;D

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

Don't try to be so sassy; If I recall correct each zone has records of the populations of animals living there.

You're trying to make it seem like DF's overworld is as simple as Dragon Warrior, when it ain'r.

I hope everyone remembers that in myth and legends... Heros do often recieve aid for nothing or little in return. From Arthur and his Excalibur (plus Merlin) to Zues and his many blessings upon travelers.

However it shouldn't be so common that you should expect it or make it rather silly however it is something I wouldn't mind happening every few Adventurers or so.

Well, you could make some encounters, but you'd have to be recognized as someone important before. Becoming legendary, earning a title, slay a megabeast or some semi-megabeasts.
Perhaps being of royal ascendance, like Arthur was. Or just be the heir of some Hero from the First Ages. We'll have to wait for a long time for this.
