Planning II
Tertius Avitus Cato approaches the manager of the Forum fights with Athulf in tow. He recognizes the pair immediately. A single bodyguard stands close behind the German as a conversation of business begins. Thanks to Athulf's past success the manager is more than happy to slot him into an upcoming fight.
On the way through the forum proper, the voice of the slave trader Auroros catches Tertius' ear. And his wares catch Athulf's eye, who begins to shout in his native tongue and pull on the chains held by Tertius' guard. One of the slaves responds in kind, and both receive a healthy crack on the back of the head to pacify them. Athulf falls to a knee and the guard raises his arm once more, but his wrist is firmly grasped by Tertius.
"Hold," he commands, letting the guard go before turning his attention to Athulf, "What incites this passion in you? Do you know those slaves?"
Athulf violently shakes his head to jostle the world back into focus before grunting, "The boy. He's my brother," Athulf finishes by gesturing towards a particularly scrawny slave, "He's never done well without me. Please, if your gods are merciful, take him in. Keep him safe. He can eat my rations if need be. But the boy needs me."
Tertius aids the gladiator to his feet and approaches Auroros. Indeed the German's brother, barely a man, looks frightened and out of sorts - the recent blow to the head likely exaggerating the issue. He is, however, flanked by a pair of promising gladiators...
