Conquest
~ A tale of Magistocracy ~
Two years ago, a portal was opened - spanning a bridge between the Blessed Realm, and the Demon World. While not the first gate of its kind, with both planes having invaded the other in times past, this one, was different. Not only was it the biggest of gates recorded, it was also built to last permanently, nor easily destroyed or sabotaged. Perfect, for an invasion.
Before long, some inhabitants of the demon world, had made their move.
What followed, was a plan allegedly centuries in the making. Within two years time, over a quarter million of people - most of them troops - passed through the gate. Their surprised opponents, embroiled in a devastating civil war of their own, and further weakened from the two years of draught that sparked it, were not their match.
After mere seven months of conquest, the Alliance of Light, has firmly placed its flag deep into the heartland of the demons. Any opposition, has been shattered. The war, is all but won.
Having enlisted in one of their armies as a young, but capable mage, has proven to be the right decision on your part. While the promised riches, proved to be far less in quantity than original hearsay would have suggested, even the common folk expected as much. Well, most of them, anyways. Even so, the war has been quite profitable for most - the alien materials, reagents and plants, while not inherently superior to those of the blessed realm, filling many niches, or opening up new possibilities. Together with the occupied demon lands, a golden age is about to dawn!
The same, could also be said about you - a certain exploit of yours during the campaign, sure to be remunerated today. But before we get to that, do tell us about;Your Name and Gender:
Your Race:
Your Magic Skills:
Your Background:
Races of Man
Humans
Most numerous of the free races, humans have settled in almost any climate. While those among them suited to be mages, number even lower in capita than the dwarves, they make up for it with their sheer numbers, and unpredictable aptitudes.
Start with an aptitude for Light Magic & One Aptitude of Choice
Merrow
Split off from their brethren in ages past, the kinship between humans and merrow mostly boils down to local politics. Safe for blueish skin, gills and webbed fingers, they still look very much alike to humans.
Start with aptitudes for Water Magic & Wind Magic
Dwarves
While in origin closer to fae than to their human cousins, the dwarven lifestyle and mindset, the two races are more often allied, than not. Mages amongst their kind are rather rare, and while the race as a whole does disdain magic, this only marginally transfers to casters of their own race. Talented individuals, are often even allowed to obtain a place amongst dwarven nobility.
Start with aptitudes for Earth Magic & Fire Magic
Elven Races
High Elves
Most commonly seen of the elves, they are the race with the thickest magic running through their veins - the prolonged lifespan of mages, giving rise to the myth of their innate longelivity. While many "pure" high-elven kingdoms exist, it is not uncommon to find them making up a part of the elite in otherwise human kingdoms.
Start with aptitudes for Light Magic & Wind Magic
Wood Elves
Sun-touched children of the forest, the wood-elves were thought to be the most martial of the elves. Living alongside of nature, they are known for taming beasts and animals, which other races wouldn't dare to approach lightly.
Start with aptitudes for Life Magic & Wind Magic
Deep Elves
Adapted to a life under the earth, the pale deep elves keep a competitive relationship with the dwarves - next to the usual disdain which elves hold for them. It might not be coincidence, that their crafts are even more coveted amongst their kin, than dwarven ones.
Start with aptitudes for Earth Magic & Life Magic
Dark Elves
Originally an army of wood elves, they were able to survive being stranded in the demon world about a millennium ago. By now, they have adapted to their new home, and it was them who brought this opportunity before the alliance. Their true nature, and actions in the following war, have led them to be thoroughly ostracised - if not hated - by their kinfolk. Even worse, is their standing among the demon races - understandably so.
Start with aptitudes for - and be able to openly practice - Dark Magic & Death Magic.
Short Explanation:
You have 8 Points to distribute.
Each level, adds 1 Point additional cost / The level to be purchased, is equal to its cost.
Having an aptitude, eases learning - and reduces the cost of levels by 1 point.
(No free give-aways. You need to invest at least 1 point to learn a school.)
Taking opposed magical schools, is a bad idea. Don't do it. Just don't.
Pay 2 Points up front, if you wish to be a heretic - learning forbidden arts, not an easy undertaking. (Doesn't apply to dark elves)

Pampered Noble
Born into lower nobility, you are of superior schooling - and lineage.
You learned a plethora of skills, most of them pertaining to etiquette, administration and a mix of martial and magical knowledge. You have 1 point less to spend on your starting magic, but will be well-regarded by anyone but common folk. (Yeah, right.)
Military Lineage
Born into a military family, you know your way around soldiers, and the battlefield.
You know a good deal about leading people, tactics, and have received combat training. Military personnel and factions, are quite likely to appreciate your background - or at least your skills.
Lesser Magistocrat
Born into a family of mages, you were trained from an even earlier age on.
You have 1 additional point to spend on your starting magic, but besides having an easier time when learning magic, your personal skills are a bit lacking.
Mercantile Upbringing
Born into a family of merchants, you know a good deal about business, and diplomacy.
You are receptive to the intent and designs of others, know your way around money, and have gathered a plethora of miscellaneous knowledge - sure to come in handy, at times.
Commoner Upstart
Born into a family of simple folks, you have clawed your way up to your current station.
You are born with a good deal of innate talent - how else would you have made it this far? Have 2 additional points to spend on your starting magic. Most of your peers though, will disdain you, and refined manners isn't the only thing you currently lack.
Halfbreed (Additional Option)
You are born from the union of two different races, and have retained traits from both of them.
Pick three racially relevant aptitudes as you wish. Be informed that halfbreeds born between elves and the races of men, are often met with disdain.
As for dark elf halfbreeds, those do exist - but until half a year ago, only with demon or beast races. Gain one aditional aptitude of your choosing, should you dare to decide upon this particular option.
(Fire - Magogs, Earth - Fiends, Wind - Avians, Water - Dragon-newts) But really, just don't make our life hard on purpose, kay?
Well, I hope I made everything clear, or heavily implicated it. If there are any questions still, do ask away.
Have fun min-maxing, I guess?
