It's harder to be All Things To All People in multiplayer1 than to get a good SP that can atune itself to most individuals' playing styles (or at least atune most of them to itself, without the randomness inherent in letting  trolls other players get in the way of a well-tuned deterministic set of mechanics).

The split between PvP and PvE is actually one of the reasons I enjoy Guild Wars 2.

I felt like WvW was the true endgame and all my grinding and legendary collecting in PvE was to aspire to be as well-equipped for the carnage as possible, and along the way I would gain the skills and knowledge of all the classes and my chosen main classes so as to be skilled enough to manage that legendary gear.

Not being ganked while doing that grinding was a relief, as I remember trying to finish my storyline quests in SWTOR and getting mobbed by Sith warriors and bounty hunters all the damn time. A bit less fun perhaps, cuz I did have fun fighting equal leveled sith as my Commando (DOT build, it wrecked Sith Juggernauts with their flat damage reduction because that reduction didn't cover DOTs).

I could see MMOs still thriving, but it would need to be a solid Pay-Once option and have a strong PvE AND PvP (both open world and instanced matching) meta with massive war mechanics a la GW2.

I still believe. Save the MMOs. Save the dream.

Pemmican is pretty incredibly durable. Corn and rice also lust forever without refrigeration.
Ah yes, the insatiable lust of corn and rice, clearly two of the most erotic foods.
