Just a quick appreciation post for DF in general.
« on: June 12, 2016, 01:39:27 pm »

I have been playing Dwarf Fortress for about 3 years now; I started in june 2013, and slowly learned a lot about the game, as many others do. I absolutely don't play this game as much as other people on this forum, but it still occupies a good part of my gaming time.

The reason I'm writing this just now is something I realized a few days ago, as I was transferring all of my data from my external hard drive to my now-repaired PC:

Since 2013, I have ALWAYS had Dwarf Fortress "installed" on my PC.

Sometimes the vanilla version, sometimes a modded one; sometimes it was just there, and I would open it just once or twice a week; but it was always there, and was never left unused.

I can't think of a better way to show how engaging a game could be. As much as i like many other games I have played, I can't imagine one of them keeping me interested for more than one or two months in a row; this one, three whole years, and counting.

I don't really know why I'm writing this, but I thought someone here could find this interesting.

Congratulations, and once again thanks for this awesome game.

Learning how to play Dwarf Fortress was on my bucket list since it is one of the most complex computer games ever. I not only learned it, I loved it!

I don't play it all the time, or even all that often, but I keep track and read on here.

I'm waiting for more features, like the ability to affect what your home civilization has access to, so I can create animal training camps and domesticate exotic wildlife for future fortresses.

Umm.. it sounds like you just admire the game if that's what's holding you back from playing. No offense.

To stay on topic:

Dwarf Fortress has pulled me away from my vast library of steam games I've already clocked 80 hours in it so far.

I believe this is the game of the future, it's so very stimulating learning, managing, and trying new things!

I find all three modes quite useful as well (being a huge fan of RTS and Adventure/Open World genres)

I don't think there will be another game as mesmerizing as Slaves to Armok 2: Dwarf Fortress!

Thank you Toady One and Threetoe! <3

This was a feature added in 0.34.06 four years and three months ago.

It's incomplete. You can never reach full domestication.
