Speed in adventure mode
« on: September 08, 2015, 05:28:57 am »

Hi,

In the game (adventure mode) at the bottom, there is such information SPEED. It used to be 1.0 at the beginning, now I have 0.627 - what is that for?

This relates to your rate of movement in adventure mode.  A speed of 1.0 is your baseline speed.  A speed of 0.5 would be half as fast and a speed of 2.0 would be twice as fast.  Your speed gets reduced if you are carrying a lot of stuff, wearing a lot of armor with a low armor user skill, or are drowsy, tired, or very hungry or thirsty.  I know that this number affects how many ticks it takes for you to move one tile, but I'm not quite sure if it also affects your other actions, such as attacking, wrestling, etc.  And just as a side note, if you want to change your speed so as to, say, run down the last elf in the forest retreat you just cleansed, you can go to the sneak menu and change your movement speed from walk to run, sprint, etc.

Many thanks! :)

1. Drop a heavy item - if your speed increases, you're overloaded.
2. Take off some of your armor - if your speed decreases, then you aren't slow due to low armor user skill.
3. Hungry and Thirsty are "low" levels and have fairly minor penalties. If they're yellow, then you're very hungry/thirsty and are getting a bigger penalty. If you're Thirsty, then you're a Vampire and need to drink some blood.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

New player here. My speed was steady at ~.3 even when I tried all of these things. I then realized that I was lying down :P. Pressed s and everything was all good. That is, until I jumped off a cliff into a river because I was thirsty and drowned. At least I didn't die thirsty.

Usually you start with a full waterskin, drink from it with 'e', if you run out of water get adyacent to a water tile, then press 'I'->select your waterskin-> fill, you can also drink from wells.

Actually you can't. But you can fill your waterskin from one.
