In one match on Red Cliffs (the only place I recognize from the whole game, I watched a pretty cool movie about the battle some time ago) I was single person left against enemy 4 generals since everyone died in middle. I ran away from the battle, and went back to base for troops. Going back to middle would be suicide, defending the boss would be also suicide, and basically anything would be suicide, so I just went for their marshall. Gathered all the soldiers I could get (from points) and went to their base only to see a guy getting troops from their flag who I promptly stopped and murdered for fun and profit.
Then I started to slowly hack at the boss health, when I saw two of enemy generals incoming without any troops and they, instead of trying to jump on me (had already lost like half HP) they went for the reinforcement flag too - so I killed them both in few hits, they must have been very low. At this point one of dudes that was spectacting called me an MVP but he actually was one since later on he told me that the fourth general came to the same goddamn reinforcement flag undetected by me (he managed to get off like five guys) so I switched from the boss and finished the last general with all my leftover troops. Proably my best game to the date.
That was real cool game. My only question is where the enemy team has been half of the fucking time because they had lots of it and yet they didin't seem to really do anything.

Knowing a little bit about military history of China, I have to commend the devs for keeping the equipment relatively sane and accurate to the period - straight sword instead of curved sabers, sensible crossbows and stuffs, which, for a game that's coming from China, is virtually unheard of. Of course there are unhistorical blings and Japanese elements bleed in, and even the historical accurate ones are mix-and-matched to the point of becoming totally unrecognizable, but it is still better than say Dynasty Warriors.

Japanese are coming in some time.
Also Parthians and Romans and whatnot, so there will be more variety.

I just started getting into this game, it's pretty fun. I chose to start as a Roman, trying to do this whole 'stranger in a foreign land' concept and, well, starting with a short sword and shield's alot like showing up at a caveman fight with a gun.

Everyone who went a Chinese faction starts with mostly spears and the slightly leveled ones use bows, but the shield just tanks it so I can get past its effective range and just start slashing and stabbing.

Ah yes, the insatiable lust of corn and rice, clearly two of the most erotic foods.

Haven't played in about a month, but IIRC the meta for PvP is almost exactly the same as M&B, people with pikes running around everywhere poking people to death.

So.... there any difference between camps?

I'm one of those players who must know wtf the difference is between sides when given the option at character creation or I can't choose.

Romans is Romans.
There are three Chink Kingdoms but I haven't noticed any exceptional difference in eye slant between them. For real though, you have access to 1st level troops of each faction and I don't think that what you pick has any real impact on anything, except some starting stuff but that's cheaper than dirt anyway so...

Thanks, that is what I wanted to know.  As long as the first choice doesn't really matter / lock you in.

It supposedly will in future, but the devs said that every time they make a change that would impact new characters they will be offering character changing stuff for free, like when Rome came out (I think).

I'm pretty awesome, joined a random siege game and got wrecked by Hua Xiong.

Then overwhelmed by cavalry+siege while moving up the left flank to....  Hua Lao Gate?  Well, it is the Dong Zhou campaign.

My 2 allies have horses and are doing exceptional in comparison.

EDIT: Ok, how do you tell what you are going to be getting when interacting with things like the recruitment center?
Expecting 8 soldiers, but get 2 and so on.

EDIT2: Ok figured that out.

Its nice when everything comes together and you and some random ally you are sticking with wreck the tar out of premium looking troops.
Tier 1-2 maps are generally open fields.  Archers are still devastating if you let them fire away without being harassed.  Also no cavalry except the player and the buddy.
Tier 3 seems to mostly be corridors or something.

Rome was released recently so I've been playing this again lately.

Holy shit Rome is glorious. I'm surprised by the historical accuracy of the unit depictions. Hastati (early Roman infantry who had to purchase their own gear) are accurately portrayed (mostly) with a single solid breastplate over a long tunic.

There was once a glory known as Rome and it's returned to be.....relatively balanced compared to the other factions and also overplayed as everyone is trying to level the troop trees.

*edit for mandatory hipster post: My avatar was a Roman before the troop tree was available, before it was cool.
