Zombies in DF retain the ability:

-To use their species interactions (to full effect, even body transformations)
-To climb, jump, and swim
-To use all their skills the possessed in life
-To build a sturdy tower with multiple rooms and even furnish it
-To use weapons and armor
-To pathfind
-To predict the path of an enemy and shoot them with a bolt/arrow/dart (they know ballistics)
-To reload

Zombies have faculties, and seem to be more limited by their unending hatred for life and their masters rather than intellectual failings.  Zombies could make a civ . . .

EDIT:  Also they can't talk.  Talking is important.

This might be the first tasks for alchemy. Make cures to be stored in hospital and applied when necessary.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Nope. They don't have souls, which are required for skill gain and keeping.

I thought they kept any skill they had in life, or Im thinking of husks.

I'm curious as to how a tank would evolve. Would it climb out of the primordial ooze wiggling it's track-nubs, feeding on smaller jeeps before crawling onto the shore having evolved proper treds?
My ship exploded midflight, but all the shrapnel totally landed on Alpha Centauri before anyone else did.  Bow before me world leaders!
