Strange noises
« on: December 20, 2014, 10:49:23 am »

Okay, so I'm lost in the caves, and I'm wandering around in this hellish maze for days now. I was setting campfires to mark my way, and suddenly I found an area were curious sounds can be heard:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Almost wet my pants.

I searched for this on the wiki, but there's nothing about this phenomena.
Does anybody know what's going down here?

It's coming from Kakapos. I remember the first time that I heard those sounds in 34.11 adventure mode (or was it 40.xx adventure mode?), I thought there was a battle going on somewhere and had trouble finding the source of the sound. Soon found out it was coming from the Kakapos nearby.

When in forests or swamplands, you can also hear chirping and barking noises which are coming from Capybaras.

Phew, thanks!

I was thinking there was a bronze colossus or something nastier down here.  :P

Do Kakapos live down in caves? That's weird...

Occasionally, the caverns can be close enough to the surface for the sounds to register, which apparently don't check to see if there are five z levels of rock in the way.

As Smjjames pointed out, I was close to the surface enough to hear those damn birds. It seems the game doesn't really cares about obstacles, but it's okay for me.

By the way, it would be awesome if we could hear the noises and sounds that the other creatures would generate, also hinting at the nature of the sound you're hearing.
For example, you sneak in the caverns and "you hear quiet sqratching sounds from above" or "you hear an echoing howl in the distance" etc.

Maybe... maybe he's a caveman.
