MDFification's Optimization Mod v2.1 (0.34.11)
« on: February 05, 2014, 05:32:35 pm »

Hi there! It's been a while since I did my last Freehold release. This is because I was both busy, and I was making this. This being a copy of DF optimized for community gameplay. I tried to keep things vanilla in general, only enabling the things we do anyway/changing things for improved gameplay.
If anyone has more features to suggest, go ahead and do so in the thread below.
Note: The mod currently uses the Phoebus tileset by default. If you want to change that, change that. If you don't know how to remove/install tilesets, you can find out on the wiki.

What's in this? Well, I'm glad you asked:
  • More FPS (Lifted from Meph's Accelerated DF Mod
  • Bugfixes and rebalancing from Igfig's Modest Mod
  • All civs (excepting dwarves) now generate visitable cities
  • All civs build roads, fortresses, tombs, walls, and bridges for a more detailed adventure mode world
  • All civs now have a diplomat position, and send guards with their caravans
  • New Overseer noble position: Has no responsibilities or requirements except a tomb. Helps keep track of your Overseers.
  • More goblins and kobolds spawn by default! Enjoy your warfare.
  • All animal people are now trainable by default for hunting or war.
  • All creatures lacking the capability to reproduce in vanilla now can reproduce.
  • Nice, wide open caverns!
  • DF Storymaker 1.0 Integration
  • Legends Viewer Integration

You can download the mod here.

Upcoming Features:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

If you're interested in joining/starting your own succession game, this is the thread for you!
It is highly important that new rebalances and bugfixes be suggested in the thread! I don't have the ability to find every single issue the community would like, especially with frequent updates. Thanks!

Nice!

I'd suggest also bundling in the Legends Viewer, Story Maker, and DFhack with ForumDwarves  to help the aspiring Community Game writers as well. Love those tools, completely invaluable.

Added Legends Viewer and DF Story Maker. Haven't added Forumdwarves as it currently includes a more modern version of DFhack and they're not compatible, unfortunately.

Apologies for updating to rapidly to everyone who downloaded. Just installed Rubble and updated all creatures not currently capable of reproducing to enable this. This should allow you to capture and farm any creature you come across if you're dorf enough, although I currently don't understand the program enough to make all animals trainable. Both of these changes (if I could implement the second one - perhaps in the future) are intended to minimize the amount of raw changing the player has to do themselves to utilizing their local biological resources.

Some updates with the current 40.10 update (not sure what the raw changes from 40.10 to 40.11 are, so I'll upgrade my work-in-progress later):

-Moved all cavern creatures to the 1st cavern layer
-All default worldgen maps (at least those in advanced worldgen...) will have 1 cavern layer only, providing a massive FPS boost.
-Made caverns more wide open by default, tweaked for a better balance between wetness/dryness (crucially, you will now never have a cavern without water; that would mean no underground spores with only 1 cavern level)

It looks like we'll have a release soon, which is nice.
