Don't get me wrong, I like the game... but I'm experiencing bugs and slowdown problems with it right now.  Which has made me shelf it for now.

State of Decay doesn't seem like the type of game to warrant two threads despite the age of this one.

New DLC, Lifeline. New map, new characters, "new way to play" that sounds suspiciously like the old way.

You're part of a military group sent to a zombie-infested city to rescue some scientists who can make a cure. Whether this means you'll start out with some serious hardware or your CO hands you a cricket bat before shoving you out of the helicopter, I'm not sure.

It's not a terrible expansion, just to pick up on the points from the post above.

New way to play - it is a new way to play, sort of, whilst exploring and rescuing civilians/other soldiers still features you also have to defend your base from a two-wave zombie onslaught periodically. So not only do you have to go and forage for supplies, but you need to keep one eye on the threat meter and make sure you can get back to defend your base in time!

Hardware - You do start out with assault rifles and handguns, as well as a random melee weapon. As each base attack is survived, the military will drop you in another care package which sometimes contains better weaponry. You can also request a weapons drop etc. with enough respect.

Don't expect something radically different to Breakout, the new map is fun but it's no bigger than the old one and no more functional. There isn't really anything amazingly new to see or do, and on this map you DO NOT move base - you get the one, with upgrade slots, which does kill the thrill of exploring and finding somewhere new to call home.

At the end of the day, it's cheap. You'll get your money's worth out of it whilst you wait for the developers to do something a little more fun.

If it gets us to some sort of multiplayer co-op, I'd be totally down with throwing these devs some more money. Zombie games are kinda fun, yeah, but they always seem to be more fun when you have more than just friendly AI's that are just about as smart as the average zombie.

So this is on sale + the Breakdown DLC for $9 on GreenManGaming.

I remember hearing good things about the game, but bad things about the developer. I heard they promised a freeform mode, and then only released it as a DLC? Could anyone clarify what happened to me? If they had promised the freeform then released it as DLC I'd rather boycott this (and DLC in general).

I Rather blame it on the publisher Microsoft. I'm positive they were the ones that forced them to charge them as DLC.

I picked up the game and both DLCs not too long ago and it's been pretty much the only game I've played since.  Got through the base game and am on Breakdown level 2 right now.  It's no Cataclysm DDA, but it's still pretty damn fun for what it is.
