(SG) You are an agent.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's time for work again. The last leg of your commute sees you in a moderate rush, but you limit your pace to a brisk walk. Agents must be professional, after all. Ah, here's the place -- you prepare your identification.

What is your name?
What is your uniform?
Where do you work?

So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

I don't exactly expect this suggestion to be taken in total seriousness, but -

You do a final pocket-check on your way in from the parking lot. You have:

-Keys to your nice car.
-Your wallet with associated credit cards and some petty cash.
-1 Rotex watch, which you hope no one examines too closely.
-1 Briefcase full of important documents.
-30 business cards which read:
Quote
Bob Noir
Notary Escrowman 1st class
Harry's Escrow and Notary, Inc.
1348-B Derse Dr., Nadasburg
For all your professional notary needs, think Harry!

As you walk through the lobby, Charlotte the receptionist looks up from filing her nails.

"Mornin' Mistah Noir!" She pronounces it "gnaw." You grit your teeth and suppress an eye-twitch.
"Good morning, Charlotte. I'm sorry, but I need to get..."
"There's already a customah in your office, Mistah Noir. Tall, handsome, and he looked pretty strong. And kinda mad." Her work done, Charlotte immediately returns to her nails. You sigh and head down the hallway to your office. For just a moment, you regret wearing your Patchwork Harlequin undershirt today. You thought bad luck it brings would have been all used up during last month's Escrowgate fiasco, but alas...

The door is closed, but through the blinds you see a man in a business suit with a fedora in his hands. Neatly trimmed hair frames a narrow face, and brown eyes stare angrily at your empty chair. His neck is a bit pink around the collar. Harry must have sent him to you to avoid a personal confrontation about... whatever this guy is mad about.

You take a deep breath and ponder what to say. This is clearly a situation that requires diplomacy and tact.

Stab him in the face.

No, but seriously, say good morning, give him a smile of the hail-fellow-well-met variety, and invite him to take a seat as you take yours (all done in the name of being Professional) while contemplating Harry. Inwardly resent the stranger and his apparent need to make your life harder. Ponder disturbing lack of implements of stabbing and also envison endless red tape to mire the stranger in.

You open your office door and stride in, full of confidence.

“Good morning, sir! Sorry to keep you waiting.” You smile in the most sincere way you can manage. “Please, have a seat.”

The angry man eyes you up and starts gesturing wildly. “Listen here, I've been blown off by everyone else about this whole pile of shi-”

“Sir, I assure you that I am here to help you and will do everything in my power to do so. However, I can only help you if you explain the issue. Now please, sit. I insist.”

Your customer hesitates a moment, seems satisfied, and sits down as a fraction of ire drains from his face. You pull your office chair out, set your briefcase on the floor beside you and sit in your own chair.

PERSONA PROSPECTUS UNLOCKED: Professional

Spoiler: Professional (click to show/hide)

Professional Persona activated!

“Alright. My name is Seamus Maccready. I represent the current owners of 15 Kurzweil Plaza, which your employer now holds in escrow until the end of next month.”

You nod. This is one of the important documents in your briefcase, but the last you knew of it, the entire transaction was in order.

“I see. Mister Maccready, are there alterations to our current arrangement that I can make for you?” This must be why Harry dropped this on me. Busy work.

“No, it's not a problem with our business. It's a problem with the buyer. T&S Sundries refuses to close the deal, and my employers have … informed me that if they don't sell this property as planned, they'll be unable to reimburse your company. I tried to tell your boss that, but he kicked me out of his office and told me to talk to you.”

“Well, I'm sorry sir, but that's an issue you'll have to settle with the buyer's real esta-”

“I tried talking to them! They turned me out, said there was nothing else to discuss, the sale was null and void.” For a brief moment you see something – desperation? - flash over Maccready's face. “I hoped money would talk for someone here. If the deal falls through, you guys don't get paid.”

At this point, it was pretty clear that if  Harry didn't get paid, you don't get paid. That settles it, then.

“Alright Mister Maccready, I'll see what I can do. I need some time to look over the documentation.”

(Professional) You retrieve a business card and write your personal extension on the back.
“If you need to get in touch, contact me at this office. Charlotte will put you through to my phone, or take a message if I'm not in when you call. Is there anywhere I can reach you if I have questions?”

Maccready gives you his home phone number, takes the proffered card and nods at you as he awkwardly leaves your office.

-1 business card

You open your briefcase and examine the important documents relating to 15 Kurzweil Plaza. The manilla folder contains financial documents and the escrow arrangements you made for the deal, but nothing of interest about the transaction itself. That kind of thing would be in Harry's office. You tuck Maccready's phone number under the paper clip holding these papers together, and replace the folder in your briefcase.
