It certainly makes things less painful. I speak from experience.

2, 3 (those defenses should take the form of spikes, especially a huge one on the back. I've had that save my cell's life when slow; max-size and keep yourself pointed away, the predators will get spiked before they eat you. Hilarious to watch, too.)
