3rd from the right, and onward 'til morning.
Maybe that thing that looks like fungus growing in the middle of the ocean will have plenty of delicious, delicious biomass.
> DESTINATION SELECTED. PREPARING TESSERACT TO PLANET RYLEX.> ERROR: TESSERACTING OF TOTAL MASS WOULD EXCEED CURRENT ENERGY LEVELS. COMMENCE EMERGENCY TRANSFER PROTOCOL?You don't know what that is, but with the atmosphere getting hotter and more toxic by the second, you don't have much choice. You think "Yes" to the Cyberframe, and feel a buzzing vibration building up from somewhere within it. If you had ears, it would probably be high-pitched and annoying.
> EMERGENCY TRANSER PROTOCOL INITIATED. TESSERACTING TOTAL MASS AS PACKETS.Wait, packets? Hold on, just how exactly does this thing expect to send you as...
...packets?
Huh. To reduce the energy cost, it seems only a single one of your cells was sent via Tesseract, along with a few nanobots floating in your protoplasm. Still got the same DNA and all that, but you are experiencing a serious shortage of biomass, even more so than before. You send a chemical signal to check in with the Nanobots, and see if they at least made the transfer with their data intact.
> AWRIGHT, WE MADE IT! THAT WAS SOME SERIOUSLY 4-D SHIT, BRAH!Ugh. Don't expect much help from these guys. Nanobots tend to be much smarter in groups. At least you can still use them to heal and tweak your physiology, once you assimilate some more biomass.
Speaking of which, the seas of Rylex are full of organic matter... some of it seemingly more intelligent than others. Though you don't have eyes, you can smell some plant-matter drifting in the water nearby. Defenseless, slow-moving, and nutritious. Just how you like your plants. You chow down, following the bits of plant matter like a trail of breadcrumbs from an old Spodean folktale you vaguely remember.
Before long, you wind up in open water. Hard-shelled diatoms are floating around, getting in your way, and the plant matter seems to be in higher concentrations. If you had to guess, you're probably nearing a multicellular plant of some kind. And you're not the only one who found it, so it seems.
These guys smell like predators, and are using some kind of specialized organ to jet quickly through the water. They're much clumsier with that than you are with your flagella, though. You weave around them, and start scarfing down as much plant matter as you can. Seems there are some other plant-eaters here, who had the same idea.
Lots of action here at the Algae Buffet. More predators are coming in looking for plant-eaters, and it's getting tough to dodge them all. At this point, they've taken a few bites out of your membrane. You probably don't want to stick around any longer than you... woah!
Yeah, you don't know what that was, but it was much, much larger than you are. You don't want to take any chances, and flagellate your way out of there.
After gorging at the Algae Buffet, you're feeling pretty full on biomass. You've got plenty enough to put these nanobots to work mutating some new traits. Reviewing your Genetic Library, you can see a few directions to take here... but you only have enough biomass to pick 2 of the following:
1. Evolve for increased mobility and speed
2. Evolve sensory organs to help detect predators and food
3. Evolve defenses to fend off other cells
4. Evolve toward killing and eating other cells
