Also, yeah, you should be able to get out if you sleep in a clever spot.

That fast travel trick only works if you can see daylight.  So if you stand under a sewer grate or on one of the stairs between two levels of sewer which are inexplicably above ground despite having solid rock above.  Which is sewers rather than caverns of course.

Along those lines, a short retirement under a town might work...
