Right. No rooms, I have my targets in a nice line very near the ammo stockpile and butcher workshop, outdoors. I could put them in a room, indoors, but I prefer at the moment to be outside. Gonna build up around them, eventually. They are all being used. Depends on how many soldiers go on No Job/Individual training.
I want my ammo near the Butcher shop, for easy Hunter reloads. Less footfalls is good for Hunters. Those Hunters cover a ton of ground and always return to the butcher workshop with a corpse in their arms. If I can save them a step I do. More leather!
These squaded dwarfs, in The Golden Skulls appear to be actually standing on the stockpile and shootings into the Archery targets, southwards. One soldier/target. Five targets now, I just added another soldier. See whenever they are on INDIVIDUAL Training, they come here. Keyword, Individual. Not squad(scheduled) training.
See a soldier on No Job, will go to Individual training, he won't just stand in a Meeting Area, like a worker. DO NOT SETUP a weapon rack, armor rack, cabinet. Just the target, and label it like I did, with 'T'.
The design is such that, the range square overlaps, and each target has a The Golden Skulls T on it. Only one soldier can use a target at a time. There is an advanced range design somewhere that is rumored to recycle ammo thru floor grates infront and behind the target, but I can't seem to get that working in 34.05.
Right. No Scheduled training. If ya do that, they will train hammer, instead of marksmanship. Schedule training tends to improve melee skills, from dueling and beating on a rack and dancing in armor, and waving a shield about. Archers don't do that sorta stuff. No ranged dueling. See what I mean? Ya gotta turn off hauling and nursing skills in Therapist, then setup your ranges, and they will visit them, whenever they would otherwise, No Job. A soldier's No Job, is Individual Training. More often if he's an active, exactful and dutiful soul, I believe.
Be sure to keep a few tradeskills on them to avoid the Recruit sadness, unless of course they are chatty nobles, they seem to revel in idleness and dishonesty. Knutor
edit: downwards to southwards
Yeah, I can get them to train on schedule too, but they don't seem to use the archery targets, and they raise hammer instead of mark. *shrug* Eventually I plan to stick a training spear under the 1x1 where they go to individual train. This should make them uber on D, aswell as on O. No hurry now, as they mainly stand behind fortifications to do their jobs. And I don't want my nobles in harms way just yet. Afterall, I got my Chief medical noble in the squad, too. LOL
Reason for choosing a custom uniform, I wanted to save wood, and make bucklers instead of shields. I frugal. I like the idea of them zipping around fast too. 14xx agility and cloth. Speed demons. Prolly won't poot the broker in this noble only squad, however.
