Tooth piņatas?
« on: March 20, 2012, 12:37:14 pm »

Have creatures been turned into tooth piņatas in this version, or is my miner just...  dentally-focused?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A plague of macaques made a beeline for the wagon at embark.  I counted 22-odd loose teeth from just one monkey...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I see a lot of royal jelly roasts in his future.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Yet more teeth, sailing off in arcs!

Do loose teeth reanimate in evil areas?  I'm sensing potential here...

Might be happening from nonlethal strikes to the head, once you get better materials it doesn't seem to happen as much.

Teeth are very small, so they're easy to knock out, and (as you'd actually expect) there's a lot of them in a creature's mouth. The normal "teeth" body plan that's used for most things has 28 teeth, for instance, and some of the others have 30. You can knock out each and every tooth individually, so that's why you can get a lot of them flying from a solid strike to the jaw.

Teeth are unconnected to a [GRASP] or [THOUGHT] body part, so they cannot reanimate. Reanimating things require a [GRASP] or [THOUGHT] body part to reanimate, so it's mostly just pieces with hands or heads that can attack.

There seems to be a bug since 34.01, where one tooth that gets knocked out turns into a half dozen or so. It certainly looks impressive when they all go sailing off in diverging arcs.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

Originally a creature had ~8 teeth, which were actually several teeth in a "group".  Imagine it as a set of dentures, with each jaw split into 4ths.  One chunk of like 4 teeth would knock out at a time.  "Upper back teeth".  All the molars are stuck together, likely via too much dwarven syrup roasts.

Now, teeth are in one category, "Teeth" but that describes like 10 total teeth.  You're supposed to knock them out singularly, but instead it takes out the whole category.

I'm more interested in the fact that you embarked in a good biome ^-^

Any good? :3

[It's really because there are a few hundred teeth threads every week]

How disappointing.  :<

XD  Indeed.

It'll make my back-up plan for a Tooth Fairy Zoo easier, at least.

I had a horse thrall do this when fighting caravan guards.

I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.

I had my teeth bitten out by a mummy... not a pleasant image to think about really. knocking teeth out is fun though! dont think of it as a bad thing! I like to take macemen, hammermen, or wrestlers and knock teeth out. they make good trophies.
