Couldn't most of the risks of danger to the health of our bronze friend be eliminated by building a one tile catching zone with ramps leading up? Cats will get flung far further, and if the Colossus falls, he'll have a second chance ;)

That sounds overengineered to me. Just replace the cat-processing floor with a magma pool so that if the Bronze Colossus is toast if he accidentally falls off.

Somehow killing the bronze colossus seems detrimental to its health.

Just make a tunnel with magma leading to the room, sealed with a floodgate. If you ever feel the need to dispose of the colossus (no idea why you would, but that's not the point) you can open it. Adds extra Fun since tantruming dorfs pull levers on their own.

It's fun while it lasts though. And when the bronze colossus does finally fall off you get to brag about how you managed to kill it with a kitten.
