First migrant wave appears, and at almost the same time I get a strange mood message. On checking I find one of the migrants has just frozen to the spot three squares inside the map border, and there he stays till starvation takes its course, never even hinting at what it is he requires. Doesn't stop him popping up later to haunt a fortress that he never actually set foot in, obviously.

He wanted a workshop that you didn't have built.

My miners are very good at finding ways to create cave-ins and other accidents at the magma sea candy cane excavation site.  We're currently locked in a mental arms race in terms of their methods for committing suicide, and my methods for preventing it.  So far neither side is clearly winning.  Many casualties.  One time, they all paraded through a newly dug channel that was rapidly filling with magma.  Half died.

Diso Faintpuzzles was born in 120.  Although accounts vary it is universally agreed that Diso was chosen by fate as the vanguard of destiny.

In the early spring of 143 Diso began wandering the wilds.

In the early spring of 143 Diso starved to death in the Horn of Striking.

I have a mayor, who was the militia commander, who was also the sheriff, who was also the most powerful dwarf in my whole ~20 limited fortress. Mandated the production of iron swords, got angry that they did not come out with it.

Mandated the same thing, siege arrived.

Well, lets just say that he got what he wanted. My fortress fell in a week.

I just lost another elite axedwarf who was also a squad leader. Charged by a giant capybara, knocked into a murky pool, and drowned.

How's that dumb? The key is in the word 'another'

Sounds like the dwarves are "winning" to me!

I was flooding a very large room with water, so I locked the doors to it to keep lag down. Some time later, I get a message that some dwarf has died of thirst. Yup, he was in that room on a ledge above the water.

Also, every recruit who has the very agile trait.

my dumbest deaths were when i was still learning about bridges. I would get someone to flip the switch and yes, it worked, and i got a message that someone was smashed to pieces, but i could never find that person...

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.
