Nope, no sand, unfortunately. I had hoped so, and there was a nearby sand desert, but I opted for the volcano for magma bridges and unlimited fuel. The bog iron in the soil is perfect to have, since it gives iron only 1 out of 10 times... so fuel is a problem if there's no volcano.

Yes, she's fine. Will be practicing axe-fu from the very beginning, and making her own armor herself.

Too bad about the sand. So you can dwarf me as either a mechanic or a furnace operator since it sounds like you'll need a dedicated one. Thanks.
